Doi Dum Punk is a satire of Thailand’s tourism industry in the Free Visa era. It's a coming of age comedy set in a sleepy mountain village that suddenly becomes a tourist hotspot. Money starts flowing in, but so does all kinds of moral decay.
 

I wrote this story three years ago, inspired by the two and a half years I spent running Mischa Cheap on Khao San Road. During that time, I dealt with every kind of tourist imaginable almost every night. A lot of them were great. A lot of them were also dickheads. More than once, I found myself wondering whether these people only behaved like this when they were in Thailand.
 

So many places in this country end up being reshaped into versions of themselves that tourists want to see. The people who actually live there slowly become extras in someone else's story. But what scares me more than tourists destroying a culture is when the people who own that culture start helping them do it. Sometimes out of necessity. Sometimes out of greed. Sometimes because they don't realize what they already have.
 

Meet Gong, an eighteen year old punk kid with hardly any friends. His mother calls him back to their quiet mountain village, a total aging society place. Bored out of his mind, he comes up with an idea to turn his family's little grocery store into a punk bar and become the rock star of Doi Dum. Along the way, he falls for an ex-influencer monk, and meets Daisy, a local tour guide who can spot a business opportunity in just about anything.
 

This is a punk rock fueled story about good hearted misfits, people who never quite belong, and the beautiful messes they make while trying to find their place in the world.
 

The script is done. I can already see the film in my head. The only thing missing is the money to make it. So for now, I'm throwing parties, selling merch, and slowly raising funds however I can.
